How to Build a Content Strategy for a Renewable Energy Company

A content strategy built around the four audiences renewable energy companies actually need to reach.

Seven Media · Updated 20 September 2026

Renewable energy companies rarely have a content problem. They have an access problem: the interesting material is on sites, in projects and inside the heads of technical teams, and none of it reaches the people who need convincing. A workable strategy is less about publishing more and more about capturing what already exists on a rhythm the business can sustain.

The four audiences to plan around

Investors and funders, who need the project and the team to look credible and well run.

Landowners, partners and suppliers, who need to understand what working with you involves.

Communities and planners, who need to see what a site is and how it operates.

Recruitment, which is a genuine constraint across the sector and responds well to content that shows the actual work.

Build a capture rhythm, not a campaign

Tie filming to the project calendar. Groundworks, delivery of major equipment, commissioning and first production are natural capture points that will not come round again.

A quarterly site visit that produces one substantial film plus a batch of short pieces is more realistic, and more useful, than an ambitious plan nobody has time to run.

Between visits, the cheapest useful content is a prepared question answered by someone technical. It costs an hour and produces several weeks of posts.

Content pillars worth committing to

How it works. The process explained clearly, in pieces, over time.

The build. Progress on real projects, which is the most watched content most energy companies have and the easiest to miss.

The people. Engineers, site teams and leadership explaining decisions in their own words.

The sector. Your view on the things your customers and partners are already discussing.

Where it goes

LinkedIn carries most business to business attention in this sector, and short technical video performs well there because so little of it exists.

The same material should also sit on your website, in investor and tender documents and in recruitment. Content produced once and used in four places is what makes the budget defensible.

How we work in the sector

Our work with Construction Crew Limited on the How to Build Biogas Sites A to Z series was built around real construction activity, which is the pattern we recommend: film the project as it progresses rather than trying to summarise it afterwards.

Our social content and media production pages cover how we produce on that rhythm, and the renewable energy page sets out the sector work.
