How to Turn an Engineering or Infrastructure Project Into a Content Series

A project with stages is already a series. How to structure the episodes and film them without disrupting the work.

Engineering and infrastructure projects have something most content programmes have to manufacture: a sequence with a beginning, a middle and an end. That structure is what makes a series work, and it is why documenting a build tends to hold attention far longer than a single completion film released after everyone has stopped caring.

Let the project set the structure

Each phase of the build is an episode. Site preparation, foundations, installation, fit out, commissioning, handover. You do not need to invent a narrative because the programme already is one.

Agree the episode list with the project team before filming starts, then accept that the schedule will move and plan visits as windows rather than fixed dates.

Give every episode the same shape

Where the project was, what happened in this phase, why it was done that way, what comes next. A consistent shape makes the series easy to follow and much faster to edit.

Keep episodes short. Five minutes of a build is generous, and the same material cuts down into shorter pieces for the feed.

Capture efficiently

One visit per phase, planned around the activity that is actually visible that week. Add a fixed wide angle from the same position every time so you accumulate a progression sequence for free.

Film the interview for each episode on the same visit, with the person closest to that phase of work.

Publish while the work is happening

Releasing episodes during the build keeps the project in front of investors, partners and prospective clients for its whole duration, and gives your team something to share that is genuinely new.

It also produces a complete film at the end, because the series has already been shot and structured.

An example

How to Build Biogas Sites A to Z, produced with Construction Crew Limited, follows this pattern: filmed around real construction work and structured so each part stands on its own.
